SHIN SPLINTS

Did you know that shin splints are one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries in military personnel?

Pain from shin splints can be felt in a variety of locations around the tibia (shin bone). In order to determine why someone is experiencing shin splints, a proper evaluation needs to occur.

Below are just a few things that can cause shin splints:

 

  • Lack of talocrural dorsiflexion or excessive plantarflexion

  • Excessive subtalar eversion

  • Lack of proper tibial rotation

  • Decreased gluteus strength

  • Decreased hip internal rotation

  • Decreased hip external rotation
