ANTERIOR SHOULDER PAIN
Experiencing discomfort in the front of the shoulder (or the anterior aspect) is very common. There a few common mechanical causes.
The front of the shoulder is NOT meant to be a load bearing area, meaning increased pressure on the front of the shoulder for prolonged time can cause irritation, inflammation, and eventually lead to pain.
Therefore, any factors that lead to pressure on the front of the shoulder should be considered, evaluated, and addressed.
These factors can include, but are not limited to:
-
Weak posterior rotator cuff
-
Tight pectoralis minor
-
Weak scapulothoracic musculature
-
Abnormal scapular tilt
-
Increased thoracic kyphosis
-
Weak thoracic paraspinals
